Trinity Hits £27.5m Profit

Regional newspaper group Trinity has recorded profits of £27.5m for 1995, up 20% on 1994’s figure of £22.9m. Turnover was up 2% from £164.5m to £167.9m.

Although there were increases in paper prices of around 25% Trinity was able to overcome these through a reduction of 5% in operating expenses. After strong growth in advertising revenues in the first half of 1995 volumes slowed in the final quarter of the year, with December in particular being affected. Overall however ad revenues in weekly papers were ahead by 4%. Particular areas which saw growth were situations vacant ads (up by 19%), motors (up by 8%) and local retail advertising (up over 6%).
