Trinity Mirror Loses Head Of National Newspapers

Trinity Mirror has announced that its managing director of national newspapers, Mark Haysom, is leaving the company just months after Sly Bailey took over as chief executive (see Bailey Leaves IPC To Replace Graf At Trinity Mirror).
Haysom, who has been at Trinity Mirror for nearly 11 years, has been managing director of Trinity Mirror’s national newspaper titles, which include The Daily Mirror and The Sunday Mirror, since September 1999.
He will step down with immediate effect, leaving the national newspaper management team to report directly to Bailey, who said: “I’m looking forward to working more closely with our national’s team to help realise the full potential of our leading brands.”
Haysom is the second high-profile executive to leave the company since Bailey’s appointment in October. Joe Sinyor, chief executive of newspapers, resigned in January after failing to secure the chief executive’s position and reportedly disagreeing with Trinity Mirror chairman, Sir Victor Blank, over strategy (see Sinyor Resigns From Trinity Mirror).
Trinity Mirror’s director of corporate development, Richard Wyatt, is also leaving the company at the end of April, while Vijay Vaghela has been appointed as group finance director, replacing Margaret Ewing who left last year.
Vaghela, who was previously a chartered accountant with Touche Ross, will take up the position this month and will be appointed as an executive director of the company after its AGM in May.
Earlier this month Trinity Mirror confirmed that the Daily Mirror would return to its original 32p coverprice, bringing an end to the price war with the Sun that began in last summer (see Daily Mirror Cuts Cover Price). The on-going price war has severely dented profits at Trinity Mirror, which recently revealed that the price cuts cost it almost £22 million last year (see Bailey Moves To Stop Mirror-Sun Price War As Costs Hit £22m).
