Trinity Referred To MMC

Trinity International’s proposed purchase of the 26 local papers owned by Argus Press has been referred to the Monopolies and Mergers Commission.

The company, which owns newspapers in north west England, north Wales, Canada and the US, has since made a £12.6m cash offer for the Huddersfield Daily Examiner.

The deal, although it will increase Trinity’s presence in the local newspaper market, is expected to get MMC approval.
