TRN Suggests VAT Ceiling
Thomson Regional Newspapers, in a presentation at the House of Commons last week, suggested that if VAT were to be imposed on the press, newspapers with circulations under 250,000 should be exempt.
This would mean that VAT would only affect the national press; it was only one measure in the TRN case against VAT but is however an alternative option to that favoured by the Newspaper Society, which has always presented a united front with the nationals in the fight against VAT on the press.
