TV Charity Events Worthwhile Says Mori

24 million adults (57% of all adults in Britain) watched Comic Relief when it was televised earlier this year, with only 32% (13 million) reading about it in the papers, according to a recent MORI poll commissioned by the charity into the effectiveness of television in fundraising events.

The report follows ITV’s decision a couple of weeks ago to scrap ‘Telethon’ due to a consistent fall in monies over the past few years. Companies within the network were somewhat relieved by the decision as the Telethon caused the loss of a day’s output on ITV (Newsline 16/6).

1,905 adults (15+) were questioned in-home for the Comic Relief survey which was conducted nationwide between the 25-29 March this year.

  • 66% of those questioned believe that Comic Relief is a good way to raise money
  • 28% believe that televising events is a good way of publicising different charities
  • Only 9% believe that charity programmes take up too much time on television
