The proposed TV debate between the most likely new residents of 10 Downing Street is in doubt after talks between the broadcasters and the parties reached a stale-mate and broke-up.
The Scottish National Party has already taken legal action, because the proposals excluded its leader Alex Salmond from the debate. The Liberal Democrats will follow suit if Paddy Ashdown is locked out of the TV debating chamber.
