TV Listings Magazines – Update

The Radio Times is to up its cover price by 5p to 65p, making it the most expensive of the TV listings magazines. The increase, the first for a year, will take effect from the July 3 issue.

The Radio Times is the market leader in terms of circulation; its July- December’92 ABC came in at 1,589,185. What’s on TV is its closest rival with an ABC of 1,431,398. However, the readership profiles of the 2 magazines are markedly different. The Radio Times enjoys a high ABC1 profile (59%), while What’s on TV has a predominantly C2DE readership (64%) . This disparity is reflected in the cover prices. What’s on TV is the cheapest of the listings titles at 35p.

The TV Times currently has a cover price of 55p. Since the listings duopoly ended in 1991 its circulation has fallen well below that of the Radio Times; its latest ABC was 1,113,604.

IPC introduced a third listings title into the market in March. TV & Satellite Week launched with a print run of 700,000 and a cover price of 55p, this is to be increased to 60p from the July 24 issue.
