TV Market Round-Up – August 1999
Revenue Total terrestrial television revenue for August 1999 (including GMTV) stood at £188.4 million, according to agency estimates. Of this ITV saw a year on year rise of 10.7%; Channel 4 was up 13.6% year on year and Channel 5’s rose by 42.7%. GMTV’s revenue made a 1.3% jump total ad revenue for satellite television was up 22.6% year on year.
In terms of share of revenue amongst the ITV franchises, Central took the largest slice in August with a 16.5% share, up 0.7% points on last year.
Impacts ITV shows a year on year improvement in impacts for all audiences categories during August. Impacts for Women and Housewives rose by 9.3% and 9.2% respectively. ABC1 Adults impacts stood were up 7.3%. Channel 4 performed strongly for Men, with impacts up by 17.9%; Women, Housewives and Housewives/Children all dropped back for C4. Channel 5 continues to improve impacts in all categories, with ABC1 Adults up by 25.2%.
Costs Per Thousand ITV costs rose for all audience categories in August, with ABC1 Adults up 3.2%. Channel 4 showed greater increases in CPTs than ITV for most categories, although Men dropped back 3.6%. Channel 5 CPTs are up for all categories.
