Channel 5 has bucked the trend once again, posting a 23.7% year on year increase in total revenues for July.
The channel has enjoyed a run of positive results under owner Richard Desmond (he acquired C5 from RTL for £104 million this time last year). Desmond made several changes to the business when he took over, including cutting seven of the nine executive board directors in a bid to make savings of around £20 million.
Channel 5 has just launched its first ever Big Brother, which features celebrities including TOWIE‘s Amy Childs, die hard reality TV star Kerry Katona and X Factor twins Jedward. The first week’s ratings are some of the channel’s highest-ever figures.
Channel 5 was the only broadcaster in our analysis to post an increase in revenues. ITV had a poor month, with ITV1 down -5.1% and ITV Breakfast down -12.7% year on year. Channel 4 also posted a -7.7% drop in revenues.
Overall, total terrestrial was down -3.0 in July, with total satellite down -1.5% year on year.
