TV Market Round-Up – May 2001
Revenue
Year on year analysis shows that total terrestrial TV revenue has fallen 16.1% during May. ITV was the worst hit, seeing revenue drop over £30m, or over 20% to £138.6m compared with the same period last year. Channel 4 was the least affected, falling 5.6%.
Total satellite revenues increased again, rising by 5.5% compared to May 2000.

Among the ITV franchises Yorkshire/North East saw the largest increase in revenue share, gaining a modest 0.5 percentage points. Carlton saw the largest drop, with its share being reduced by 0.7 percentage points year on year. The franchise still retained the largest overall share, commanding 16.58%.

Costs Per Thousand
Once again all of the commercial television channels suffered drops in costs per thousand (CPT). The largest falls were at Channel 5 and included a 30.2% drop in the Housewives with Children category and a 17.6% drop in the Women category. ITV suffered the largest loss in the Adults category, falling 14.3% year on year.

Commercial Impacts
Commercial Impacts were up year on year across the board with the exception of ITV, which saw a decrease across all categories. ITV’s worst losses were in the Men category which fell 8.2% and the ABC1 category which decreased by 7.2%. Its least significant loss was 4.3% in the Housewives with Children group. Channel 4 and Channel 5 saw significant increases in the Housewives with Children category. Channel 4’s impacts were up 16% while Channel 5’s increased by 28.3%. Satellite channels saw impacts rise by 19.1% in the ABC1 category.
