TV Market Round-Up – September 1999
Revenue Total terrestrial television revenue for September 1999 (including GMTV) came in at £262.7 million, according to agency estimates. The ITV Network showed a year on year increase of 12.9% in its revenue; Channel 4 was up 10.8% and Channel 5’s ad revenue was up 32.4% year on year.
Revenue for GMTV dropped back year on year this month, by 9.4%, and total satellite revenue saw an annual rise of 22.6%.
In terms of share amongst the ITV franchises, most areas saw their share drop back as Yorkshire/Tyne Tees picked up 0.8% points. Central also rose by 0.4% points making it joint-top of the revenue table along with Carlton.
Commercial Impacts Impacts were up for all audiences bar Housewives/Children for ITV, with ABC1 Adults rising by 5.3%. ITV also performed strongly for Men, with impacts up 6.0%. As in August Women, Housewives and Housewives/Children all dropped back for Channel 4; impacts for Men on the other hand increased by 4.5%.
Channel 5 continues to see a strengthening of its commercial impacts across all audience categories. Notably, ABC1 Adults impacts grew by more than 50% compared to September last year.
Costs Per Thousand Year on year, costs rose for all audience categories on ITV, particularly for Housewives/Children, up 15.6%. ABC1 Adults CPTs were up 7.2% for ITV. Channel 4 was up across the board and Channel 5 got cheaper for ABC1 Adults for more expensive to reach the Housewives/Children audience group.
