TV Overnights: 12.5m viewers watch Spain v Germany game on BBC One

BBC One secured a high of more than 12.5 million viewers for the much-anticipated Spain v Germany semi-final last night.

The 1-0 match, which will see Spain take on Holland in the World Cup 2010 final on Sunday, pulled in more than 8.8 million average viewers and a 38.4% audience share between 7pm and 10pm, dominating the full prime-time slot.

ITV1’s popular Midsomer Murders offered a football-free alternative and managed to bank a decent 3.3 million average viewers and 13.5% share between 8pm and 10pm, despite competing with BBC One’s World Cup coverage.

Elsewhere, Channel 4’s controversial The Sex Education Show: Am I Normal? continued with a respectable 1.4 million viewers and a 8.2% share in the 9pm to 10pm slot, while Five’s long-running NCIS picked up 1.5 million viewers and a 6.2% share.

Over on BBC Two, the one-off show In Loving Memory, which told the stories of families who have created roadside shrines for relatives killed in traffic accidents, settled on a low 840,000 viewers in the 9pm to 10pm peak-hour.

Earlier on in the evening, ITV1’s Emmerdale attracted a decent 5.7 million average viewers and 29.9% share during the 7pm to 7.30pm slot.
