TV Overnights: BBC One banks peak-hour top spot with 5.3m viewers

Five Daughters

BBC One’s three-part drama Five Daughters secured the all-important 9pm to 10pm top spot last night with a high of 5.3 million viewers.

The second episode of the drama about the investigation into the Ipswich murders in 2006, attracted more than 5 million average viewers and a 20.3% audience share during the peak-hour.

At the same time, ITV1’s penultimate Joanna Lumley’s Nile pulled in a slightly lower 4.2 million average viewers and a 16.9% average share.  However, both programmes raced ahead of the three remaining rival channels during the 9pm to 10pm slot.

Channel 4’s Blitz Street with Tony Robinson picked up 1.5 million peak viewers and a 5.9% share, while BBC Two’s Mary, Queen of Charity Shops: Revisited and Channel Five’s popular FlashForward came in with an equal 1.4 million average viewers and a 5.8% share.

Earlier on in the evening, meanwhile, the soaps dominated the pre-watershed ratings.  BBC One’s Eastenders attracted a high of more than 9.3 million viewers, while ITV1’s Coronation Street picked up 9 million peak viewers.
