TV Overnights: BBC One secures a prime time run ahead of ITV1’s All at Sea

BBC One

BBC One secured the highest ratings during the all-important 9pm to 10pm peak-hour last night with Have I Got News For You and Outnumbered.

The quiz show Have I Got News For You, with comedian Chris Addison, Martin Clunes and Paul Merton, attracted almost 6 million peak viewers and a 24.9% average audience share between 9pm and 9.30pm, while Outnumbered pulled in a high of 5.8 million viewers and an equal 24.9% average audience share between 9.30pm and 10pm.

The two BBC One programmes saw off competition from ITV1’s new three-part series All at Sea, which sees celebrities including Bradley Walsh, Richard Madeley, Nick Hancock and Dawn Porter take a sailing tour of England’s south coast in a variety of vessels.

The new reality show started on a high of 3.9 million viewers in the first fifteen minutes but slipped down to an average of 3.5 million average viewers and a 15.6% share during the full hour-long slot.

At the same time, Channel 4’s How the Other Half Live managed to pip BBC Two to third place in the peak-hour ratings war.  The documentary series picked up 1.7 million average viewers and a 7.5% share, compared to BBC Two’s History Cold Case, which settled on a slightly lower 1.6 million viewers and 7.1% share.

Meanwhile, Five’s 9 o’clock film, Pistol Whipped, pulled in 1.2 million average viewers and a 6.1% share.

Earlier on in the evening, the soaps dominated the pre-watershed line-up.  BBC One’s Eastenders attracted more than 7.8 million viewers and a 38.5% share, while ITV1’s Coronation Street pulled in 7.5 million viewers and a 32.9% share.
