BBC One’s new series The Young Ones finished on a high of 4.2 million viewers during the all-important peak-hour last night.
The third and final programme, which saw celebrities including Dickie Bird and Lionel Blair attempt to relive 1975, secured the highest ratings for the majority of the 9pm to 10pm slot. The BBC One show pulled in 4.1 million average viewers and a 17.8% audience share.
However, it was slightly overshadowed by ITV1’s popular Law & Order: UK, which started on a high of 4.3 million viewers at 9pm.
The crime drama, starring Bradley Walsh, lost the peak share from 9.15pm onwards but did manage to attract a decent 3.8 million average viewers and a 16.8% audience share throughout the full hour-long slot.
Over on Channel 5, the Liverpool v Steaua Bucharest match scored 2.6 million viewers and an 11.8% average audience share between 7.30pm and 10.10pm.
Meanwhile, BBC Two’s second Gareth Malone’s Extraordinary School for Boys pulled in 1.6 million viewers and a 7% share and Alan Davies’ Teenage Revolution picked up 1.1 million viewers and a 5.1% share for Channel 4 during the 9pm to 10pm slot.
Earlier on in the evening, the soaps dominated the pre-watershed slot. BBC One’s Eastenders hit a high of more than 7.9 million peak viewers while over seven million viewers tuned in to catch up with the latest goings on in ITV1’s Coronation Street.
