TV Overnights: BBC1’s strong line up leaves ITV1 lagging

BBC1 easily won the Tuesday night ratings battle, with Eastenders attracting the biggest audience of the day.

Last night’s visit to Walford, featuring some of the residents locked up in a police cell, had an average audience of over 9 million viewers – a viewing share of 39.5%.

Following directly afterwards was long running medical drama Holby City, which was watched by just under 6 million people.

Rounding off a good night for the Beeb was Traffic Cops, which attained a viewing figure of 4.4 million.

ITV1’s bright spot came from rural soap opera Emmerdale, which pulled in 6.6 million viewers. This comfortably beat BBC1’s The One Show, which only rated with 4.6 million people.

BBC2’s Masterchef: The Professionals managed to pull in higher audience than ITV1’s Fiddles, Cheats & Scams. The popular cooking programme held sway with 3.3 million people, marginally ahead of the 3.1 million watching ITV1’s documentary.

Elsewhere Channel Five’s CSI: Miami pulled in an average audience of 2 million between 9pm and 10pm, whilst Ramsay’s Best Restaurant on Channel Four attracted 1.1 million during the same slot.
