TV Overnights: England game fails to keep up with Lord Alan

ITV1’s coverage of the Live International Football game dominated the early evening ratings but couldn’t quite keep up with BBC One’s The Apprentice during the all-important 9pm to 10pm slot.

A peak audience of almost seven million viewers tuned in to see the remaining candidates aim to sell personalised DVD experiences at London’s shopping centre Westfield in a bid to impress Lord Alan.

For some, the pure frustration of Stuart “the brand” Bragg winning the task should have been enough to make people turn off during the final fifteen minutes but the hour-long programme pulled in a consistent 6.7 million average viewers and a 25.7% audience share for BBC One during the peak-hour.

At the same time, ITV1’s coverage of the England v France friendly banked over 5.5 million viewers on average, although it kicked-off with a much higher 7.5 million peak viewers during the pre-watershed slot.

Elsewhere, Channel 4’s popular Grand Designs peaked with 2.1 million viewers, and pulled in a 7.3% average audience share between 9pm and 10pm, while Channel 5’s NCIS picked up more than 1.2 million viewers and a 4.8% share.

Over on BBC Two, the second episode of Ancient Worlds attracted a peak audience of 1.5 million viewers and a 5.4% average share during the 9pm to 10pm slot.
