TV Overnights: Extended I’m a Celeb claims the top spot

ITV1’s one and a half hour-long I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here! secured the highest ratings during the prime time slot last night.

The reality show attracted more than 8.4 million peak viewers and a 31.9% audience share between 8.30pm and 10pm, overshadowing BBC One’s new Gavin & Stacey series.

However, despite coming second to ITV, the comedy series still pulled in an impressive 5.7 million peak viewers and a 22.2% audience share between 9pm and 9.30pm.  The new QI series followed at 9.30pm with over 4.6 million peak viewers and a 18.2% share.

Elsewhere, BBC Two’s Natural World ‘Bringing Up Baby’ picked up 1.7 million average viewers and a 6.9% share during the 9pm to 10pm peak-hour.

At the same time, Channel 4’s new Cutting Edge documentary Jess: Britain’s Youngest Sleep Walker pulled in 1.5 million average viewers and a 6.3% share.

Meanwhile, Five’s 9 o’clock film The Foreigner – an action thriller starring Steven Seagal – attracted 871,000 average viewers and a 4% audience share between 9pm and 10.55pm.

Earlier on in the evening, ITV1’s hour-long Emmerdale secured the top soap spot with a high of 7.2 million viewers despite competition from BBC One’s hour-long Eastenders, which peaked with 7 million viewers.
