TV Overnights: Five Days secures a comeback with 6.4m viewers

BBC One’s new five-part mystery drama series secured the highest peak-hour ratings last night, despite losing out to the ITV1’s football coverage on Wednesday evening.

Five Days made a comeback to bank the top spot with more than 6.4 million average viewers and a 26.7% audience share between 9pm and 10pm.  The series, which stars Suranne Jones and Chris Fountain, is due to conclude tonight.

At the same time, ITV1’s long-running police drama The Bill pulled in 3.4 million average viewers and a 14.5% audience share to take second place in the peak-hour ratings war.

Five’s 9 o’clock Clint Eastwood film Hang ‘Em High, meanwhile, picked up 1.6 million viewers and a 8.4% share between 9pm and 11.25pm.

Elsewhere, Channel 4’s Cutting Edge documentary My Daughter Grew Another Head and Other True Life Stories attracted 1.4 million average viewers and a 6.2% audience share between 9pm and 10pm, while BBC Two’s new documentary How Safe Are Our Skies? Detroit Flight 253 settled on 1.2 million average viewers and a 5.3% share.

Earlier on in the evening, BBC One’s Eastenders secured a high of more than 9.4 million viewers, compared to ITV1’s Coronation Street‘s 8.7 million peak viewers.
