TV Overnights: Gavin & Stacey kick-off BBC One’s peak run

Gavin & Stacey cleaned up during last night’s peak-slot with a tidy 5.9 million viewers.

The comedy series pulled in more than 5.8 million average viewers and a 26% share between 9pm and 9.30pm, kick-starting BBC One’s peak run.

QI followed with a high of 4.4 million viewers and a 20.2% average audience share, before BBC News at Ten and this week’s Question Time, which both secured the top spot later on in the evening.

Gavin & Stacey saw off competition from ITV1’s The Bill, which attracted 3.8 million average viewers and a 17.3% share during the all-important 9pm to 10pm peak hour.

At the same time, BBC Two’s Natural World secured third place in the ratings war with 1.5 million average viewers and a 7.1% share, followed by Channel 4’s Kidnapped by the Kids and Five’s film Striking Distance.

The soaps dominated the ratings earlier on in the evening.  ITV1’s Coronation Street pipped BBC One’s Eastenders to the top spot with 7.9 million peak viewers compared to Eastenders‘ 7.7 million.
