The X-Factor returned to ITV1 on Saturday night, repeating its success of last week with a peak audience of 10.2 million viewers.
The second show in the new, revamped series attracted an average of 9.7 million viewers and held a 40.2% audience share between the peak time of 8pm to 9.30pm. The X-Factor was sandwiched between Ant & Dec’s new gameshow Red or Black?, which gained an average of 6.1 million viewers. The new programme lost over a million viewers on Sunday night with an average of 4.8 million viewers.
Saturday night’s 9.45pm slot saw the return of Jonathan Ross to our screens, on the new home of ITV1. The formula stayed pretty much the same but with the addition of ad breaks. Ross’ show peaked with 3.7 million viewers, similar to its highest ratings over on BBC One.
ITV1 monopolised the Saturday night TV ratings, however, BBC One’s Doctor Who gained 25.9% of audience share with an average of 5.5 million viewers at 7pm. BBC One’s Saturday night schedule seems to be eagerly awaiting the comeback of Strictly Come Dancing, as it’s ratings are averaging a low 12-16% of the audience share.
Big Brother’s new Channel 5 show averaged a fairly low 1.5 million viewers on Saturday night, considering its opening night set records for the channel at 5.1 million viewers (although Friday night saw the show peak at 2.6million viewers at 9.30pm).
Sunday day-time was mostly dominated by the Athletics on Channel 4, boasting a peak audience of two million viewers at 12.30pm on its closing day.
