ITV1 dominated the prime time ratings this bank holiday with its Monday night soap line-up and the last in the series of Joanna Lumley’s Nile.

Emmerdale kick-started the channel’s peak run at 7pm with a high of 6.9 million viewers and a 29% average audience share.  The first episode of Coronation Street followed with more than 9.5 million peak viewers and an impressive 40.5% share.

However, BBC One’s Eastenders managed to steal the peak share between 8pm and 8.30pm, with 9.3 million viewers and a 37.3% share, although viewers went back to ITV1 at 8.30pm for the second episode of Corrie, which pulled in 9.3 million viewers and a 35.1% share.

At 9pm, Joanna Lumley’s Nile attracted over 4.7 million viewers and a 18% average audience share during the all-important peak-hour, which put ITV1 well ahead of its rival terrestrial channels.

BBC One’s Inspector George Gently failed to compete with 3.4 million average viewers and a 13.5% share between 8.30pm and 10pm, while BBC Two’s World Championship Snooker coverage picked up an even lower 2.7 million average viewers and 13.7% share.

Elsewhere, Five’s FlashForward pulled in 1.5 million viewers and a 6% share between 9pm and 10pm, while Channel 4’s Blitz Street settled on 1.4 million viewers and a 5.7% share.
