Come Rain Come Shine

ITV1’s new prime time drama Come Rain Come Shine dominated the ratings with a high of 5.8 million viewers last night.

The two-hour long one-off drama, starring David Jason and Alison Steadman, attracted more than 5.5 million average viewers and a 21.2% audience share between 8.30pm and 10.30pm, beating BBC One’s final Accused to the peak hour top spot.

A much lower 3.1 million average viewers tuned in to see the conclusion of Accused between 9pm and 10pm.

The peak-hour drama was also up against competition from BBC Two’s festive Ruth Jones’ Christmas Cracker and Channel 4’s new Jamie’s Best Ever Christmas.

The Gavin & Stacey star’s ‘comedy and chat’ show pulled in a decent 2.4 million average viewers and a 9.1% share for BBC Two during the 9pm to 10pm slot, while Jamie’s new two-part series started on a high of 2.8 million viewers and a 10% average share for Channel 4.

At the same time, Channel 5’s Extreme Fishing with Robson Green secured 1.2 million average viewers and a 4.5% share.

However, the soaps banked the highest ratings of the night – ITV1’s Coronation Street peaked with 11.1 million viewers and an impressive 40.5% share to claim to the overall top spot.
