Father & Son

ITV1’s new four-part drama Father & Son stole the limelight from BBC One’s final Luther, securing the peak-hour with a high of 4.1 million viewers last night.

The second episode of the hard-hitting series with Dougray Scott and Sophie Okonedo, which will conclude on Thursday, pulled in more than 4 million viewers and a 17.5% average audience share between 9pm and 10pm.

Meanwhile, BBC One’s Luther came to an end with 3.4 million average viewers and a 14.9% share during the peak-slot.  The six-part thriller usually claims the Tuesday evening ratings, having started on a high of more than 5.7 million peak viewers a month ago.

Elsewhere, the three remaining terrestrial channels all settled on 1.9 million average viewers between 9pm and 10pm last night.  Five’s ever-popular CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and BBC Two’s new Tribal Wives both picked up 1.9 million viewers and a 8.5% share each, while Channel 4’s new documentary Inside Nature’s Giants: Great White Shark settled on a slightly lower 8.4% share.

Earlier on in the evening, BBC One banked a pre-watershed peak-run with Eastenders and Holby City.  The channel’s flagship soap attracted over 6.7 million viewers, before the hospital drama pulled in a high of 5.4 million viewers.
