TV Overnights: ITV1’s special prime time line up dominates the ratings

ITV1’s week-long line-up of live Britain’s Got Talent shows and special late-night Corrie episodes secured the prime time ratings once again last night.

Emmerdale started off ITV1’s peak run at 7pm, pulling in more than 6.9 million viewers and a 33.2% average audience share, before the first episode of BGT attracted over 10.7 million peak viewers and a 39.2% share between 7.30pm and 9pm.

At 9pm, highs of 9.4 million viewers tuned in to see Carla and Hayley get kidnapped as the Tony Gordon storyline begins to climax in Coronation Street.  The 30-minute soap secured a 37.1% share for ITV1.

Meanwhile, the BGT results show, which saw Ant and Dec announce the act with the highest number of public votes leaving the judges to decide on the remaining two acts, attracted 9.7 million peak viewers and a 37.3% share between 9.30pm and 10pm.

Elsewhere, BBC One’s Eastenders picked up 6.2 million average viewers and a 26% audience share between 7.30pm and 8pm, while the channel’s long-running hospital drama Holby City pulled in 3.8 million viewers and a 15.1% share.

BBC One’s penultimate Luther, meanwhile, settled on 2.9 million average viewers and a 11.6% audience share during the all-important 9pm to 10pm peak-slot.

At the same time, BBC Two’s The Story of Science – Power, Proof and Passion attracted 1.4 million viewers and a 5.8% share, while Five’s popular CSI: Crime Scene Investigation banked 1.6 million and a 6.7% share.

Over on Channel 4, the third episode of Genius of Britain picked up just 957,000 viewers and a 3.8% average share between 9pm and 10pm.
