TV Overnights: ITV1’s X Factor audience dips half a million on last week

The X Factor

ITV1’s X Factor dominated the weekend ratings once again but saw a slight dent in its viewing figures, which were down half a million on last week’s peak audience.

A high of 14.8 million viewers tuned in to see two contestants get booted off ahead of next week’s semi-final – Katie went first, before Mary and Wagner performed for their chance to stay in the competition.

Unsurprisingly, the judges took the opportunity to get rid of the controversially-popular Wagner.  The full hour-long show attracted 13.8 million average viewers and a 45.5% audience share between 8pm and 9pm.

On Saturday, more than 12.6 million average viewers tuned in for the performance show, securing an equal 45.5% audience share for ITV1 between 7.45pm and 9.40pm.

I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! followed with 9.1 million viewers and a 37.5% average share between 9.40pm and 10.40pm.

Meanwhile, Sunday night’s trip to the jungle pulled in a higher audience of more than 9.7 million viewers (peaking with over 10.7 million within the first 30 minutes after The X Factor) and a 35.7% average share between 9pm and 10.30pm.

Over on BBC One, Strictly Come Dancing peaked with more than 12.5 million viewers on Saturday evening, and attracted a high of 11.8 million on Sunday night.

The channel’s sports content also proved popular this weekend, with Match of the Day Live pulling in over 2.8 million peak viewers on Sunday afternoon and the live tennis coverage of the ATP World Tour Finals picking up 2.4 million on Saturday.

Channel 4 also managed to claim the top spot during the weekend schedule with the animated comedy film Ice Age 2: The Meltdown, which peaked with 2.8 million viewers at around 4pm on Sunday.
