TV Overnights: ITV’s I’m a Celebrity holds its popularity despite BBC’s efforts

I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here!

Despite a fairly successful night for the BBC, I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here! attracted a peak of 8.9 million viewers across its ITV1 and ITV1HD channels in its hour and a half show.

The show started at 8.30pm and averaged 8 million viewers, holding 30% of the audience share as it was revealed that model Emily was the latest celebrity to be voted out of the jungle.

ITV1’s Emmerdale averaged 7 million viewers followed by an un-scheduled Coronation Street that brought in a lower 7 million viewers compared to its previous night’s 9.4 million.

Coronation Street’s usual slot for its second instalment on a Monday night was replaced by I’m a Celebrity, which aired at 8.30pm -10pm. This drop in the ratings for the well-known soap could possibly be down to viewer’s confusion over the re-scheduling.

The BBC however put up a strong fight as Eastenders dominated the 7.30pm slot attracting a high 8.4 million viewers and 36% of the audience share for BBC One. Holby City followed averaging a healthy 4.3 million viewers.

In the peak slot of 9pm, the new BBC drama Death in Paradise starring Ben Miller aired its sixth episode of the new series reaching 4.3 million viewers and 16% of the audience share.

Over on BBC Two at 8pm Masterchef: The Professionals competed with Coronation Street, peaking at 3.1 million viewers at 8.45pm.

In Channel 4’s 9pm peak slot, Jamie’s Great Britain averaged 1.3 million viewers followed by My Transsexual Summer with 1 million.

Over on Channel 5,  CSI: Miami attracted 1.1 million viewers and 4.3% of audience share in their 9pm slot.
