The last ever episode of BBC One’s Waking the Dead attracted a high of more than 5.9 million viewers during last night’s prime time slot.
The second part of ‘Waterloo‘, on between 9pm and 10pm, secured an average audience of 5.7 million viewers and a 22.5% audience share to claim the peak-hour top spot.
Next in line was ITV1’s final Law & Order: UK, which settled on 3.8 million viewers and a 14.8% average share between 9pm and 10pm.
On Channel 4, the fourth episode of One Born Every Minute – the fly on the wall documentary series based in a maternity unit in Southampton, pulled in 1.7 million average viewers and a 6.7% share, while Channel 5’s 9 o’clock film premiere Resident Evil: Extinction picked up more than 1.4 million viewers and a 6.5% share.
Meanwhile, a new documentary series following the progress of a couple hoping to adopt a seven year old girl who has been neglected, A Home for Maisie, banked 1.5 million average viewers and a 6.1% share for BBC Two during the 9pm to 10pm peak-hour.
Earlier on in the evening, the soaps dominated the pre-watershed schedule. ITV1’s Coronation Street and BBC One’s Eastenders attracted an equal high of 9.2 million peak viewers each.
