BBC One’s New Tricks stole the peak audience share away from ITV1’s comedy drama Married Single Other during the all-important 9pm to 10pm slot last night.

The long-running BBC drama, which stars Alun Armstrong and Amanda Redman, secured 4.2 million peak viewers and a 16.6% average audience share during the hour-long slot, compared with Married Single Other‘s 4.3 million peak viewers but lower 15.8% average share.

Elsewhere, Channel 4’s popular series The Secret Millionaire pulled in 2.3 million average viewers and a 9.6% share, while BBC Two’s second A Band for Britain picked up 1.6 million average viewers and a 6.6% share.

Over on Five, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly spaghetti western film starring Clint Eastwood attracted 1.2 million average viewers and a 8.7% share between 9pm and 12.40am.

Earlier on in the evening, the soaps dominated the pre-watershed slot.  BBC One’s Eastenders pulled in a high of more than 9.6 million peak viewers but was pipped to the top spot by ITV1’s Coronation Street, which banked over 10.1 million peak viewers.
