ITV1’s National Television Awards scored a high of more than 6.5 million viewers last night.
The ceremony, hosted by Dermot O’Leary, dominated the ratings throughout prime time with 6.2 million average viewers and a 26.5% share between 7.30pm and 10pm.
The ITV1 show saw awards for The X Factor, Ant & Dec, David Jason, The Inbetweeners, Lacey Turner, Eastenders and Top Gear.
BBC One’s Crimewatch was ITV1’s closest competitor during prime time, pulling in 3.5 million average viewers and a 14.3% share during the 9pm to 10pm slot. In the pre-watershed hour, BBC One’s new DIY SOS also picked up 4.5 million average viewers.
Elsewhere, Channel 4’s Mary Portas: Secret Shopper continued with 1.9 million average viewers and a 7.8% share, while BBC Two’s new one-off documentary Posh and Posher: Why Public School Boys Run Britain banked 1.6 million viewers and a 6.8% share between 9pm and 10pm.
At the same time, 1.8 million viewers tuned in to Channel 5 for the popular crime drama NCIS.
However, ITV1’s Emmerdale banked the highest ratings of the night – attracting 7.2 million viewers between 7pm and 7.30pm.
