ITV1’s coverage of the topsy turvy UEFA Champions League match between Inter Milan and Tottenham Hotspur was less attractive for viewers than BBC1’s double hitters of Waterloo Road and The Apprentice.
Spurs’s narrow 4-3 defeat at the San Siro, which featured an impressive hat-trick by Gareth Bale, only had an average audience of 3.5 million people.
Over on BBC1 Waterloo Road was being watched by 4.5 million people, and one hour later, this week’s candidate fired by Lord Sugar attracted 6.6 million viewers (peaking at 6.9 million for the last 15 minutes).
Elsewhere Channel 4’s Grand Designs pulled in 2.7 million viewers and Masterchef: The Professionals had over 3 million people entertained on BBC2.
Meanwhile Cowboy Builders achieved the hightest rating of the day for Five, with 1.7 million viewers.
Looking at some selected digital channel viewing, E4’s Ugly Betty was watched by 503,000 people; ITV2’s Peter Andre: The Next Chapter pulled in 686,000 viewers and 482,000 people watched the first-look episode of Home And Away on Fiver.
