TV Overnights: The Bill triumphs with 4.5 million viewers

ITV1’s The Bill claimed the 9pm to 10pm top spot for the first time last night with a high of more than 4.5 million viewers.

The new-look police drama, which was revamped for its move to the post-watershed slot, attracted 4.2 million average viewers and a 19% audience share during the peak-hour.

Meanwhile, BBC Two’s Masterchef: The Professionals gave BBC One a run for its money, pulling in 3.3 peak viewers during the first half of the all-important peak-hour.  The new series of Never Mind the Buzzcocks filled in the final 30-minute slot with 1.8 million average viewers.

At the same time, BBC One’s conclusion of the two-part documentary series The Secret Life of Twins picked up 3 million viewers and a 13.7% average audience share.

Elsewhere, Cutting Edge returned to Channel 4 with Captive for 18 Years: The Jaycee Lee Story, which attracted 2.4 million average viewers and a 11% audience share.  Five’s Live UEFA Europa League coverage, meanwhile, picked up 1.1 million average viewers between 7.30pm and 10.20pm.

Over on ITV2, the fly-on-the-wall documentary series following Katie Price’s life after her split from Peter Andre, What Katie Did Next, ended on a high of 1.1 million viewers and a 5% average audience share.

Earlier on in the evening, BBC One’s Eastenders secured the top soap spot with 8.2 million peak viewers.  Boris Johnson’s appearance in the Queen Vic proved to be a ratings hit, pulling in 8 million average viewers and a 37.8% audience share, ahead of ITV1’s Coronation Street‘s 7.8 million average viewers and 33.6% share.
