TV Overnights: The Jury secures 6.2m viewers for ITV1

ITV1’s new drama The Jury debuted with more than 6.2 million peak viewers in the prime time slot last night.

The character-based series, starring Julie Walters as Emma Watts QC, attracted over 5.7 million average viewers and a 22.6% audience share to claim the top ratings during the 9pm to 10pm slot.

The ITV drama beat BBC One’s Young Apprentice to the top spot. The spin-off show pulled in 3.9 million average viewers and a 15.7% share during the peak-hour.

On BBC Two, The Choir: Military Wives picked up 2.2 million viewers and a 8.9% average share in the same slot, while Channel 4’s Hippo documentary banked 1.9 million viewers and a 8.1% share.

The Hotel Inspector secured 1.4 million viewers and a 5.5% share for Channel 5 between 9pm and 10pm.

In the pre-watershed slots, the soaps dominated the line-up. BBC One’s Eastenders achieved a peak audience of more than 8.9 million viewers, while ITV1’s Coronation Street peaked with 8.4 million viewers.

Emmerdale, meanwhile, banked 7.2 million peak viewers for ITV1 in the 7pm to 7.30pm slot.
