TV Overnights: The X Factor hits a high of 14.4 million

The X Factor

The X Factor dominated the ratings once again this weekend, pulling in an impressive high of 14.4 million average viewers on Sunday night.

Yesterday’s show, which featured performances from Alicia Keys and Rhianna as well as the all-important results from Saturday’s show, attracted more than 13.4 million average viewers and a 45.8% audience share between 8pm and 9pm.

An impressive 14.4 million peak viewers tuned in to see Welsh singer Lloyd leave the show between 8.45pm and 9pm.

On Saturday, The X Factor pulled in 12.3 million average viewers and a 47.8% share for ITV1 between 8pm and 9.45pm.  This week, the five remaining acts performed Take That songs in a bid to win a place in the semi-finals.

ITV also claimed the top spot during prime time on Friday, Saturday and Sunday with I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here!.  The programme picked up more than 7.8 million average viewers between 9pm and 10.30pm on Friday evening following ITV1’s peak run of Emmerdale and Coronation Street.

The jungle-based reality show, which is presented by Ant & Dec, also held on to the highest ratings  after The X Factor on Saturday evening.  I’m a Celeb pulled in 8.4 million average viewers and a 37.8% audience share between 9.45pm and 10.45pm.

On Sunday, the hour and a half-long trip to the jungle also banked the top spot during the all-important peak slot, picking up 8.6 million viewers and a 31.8% share between 9pm and 10.30pm.

However, BBC One’s Saturday day-time line up did manage to steal the limelight from ITV1.  The channel secured a peak run with its Live International Rugby coverage, Final Score, Hole in the Wall, Merlin and the majority of Strictly Come Dancing, which peaked with 10.1 million viewers before The X Factor started over on ITV.
