TV Overnights: Tiny animals documentary gets super ratings

Super Tiny Animals

ITV1’s Super Tiny Animals documentary, which looked at the growing demand for miniature pets, proved to be a big hit with the viewer’s last night.

Nearly 5 million people tuned in to the show across ITV1 and ITV1 HD, which featured Sandra Ponder and her collection of sick and abandoned Chihuahuas. This was over a million more than BBC1 offering That’s Britain!, which was broadcast at the same time.

Predictably the jungle goings on down under in I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here! attracted the biggest Wednesday night audience. 8.3 million viewers saw Benidorm actress Crissy Rock become the sixth celebrity to be evicted from the show. Last night’s edition had a peak audience of 9.6 million between 9pm and 9.15pm, which also featured former contestant Peter Andre briefly enter the camp to visit the remaining celebrities.

Elsewhere the penultimate episode of David Attenborough’s nature programme Frozen Planet saw ratings drop by over one million viewers on its previous week’s total, with 5.2 million watching between 9pm and 10pm.

Over on Channel 4 Chris Moyles’ Quiz Night was seen by 806,000 viewers, Masterchef: The Professionals on BBC2 proved popular with just over 3 million viewers.

Meanwhile football proved to be a popular draw with the viewers, with just under 2 million viewers watching the Europa League 2-1 defeat for Tottenham Hotspur against PAOK Salonika on Channel 5, whilst Crystal Palace’s shock defeat of premier league champions Manchester United in the Carling Cup attracted 997,000 viewers to Sky Sports 1.
