TV Overnights: Tuesday’s EastEnders secures 8.2 million

EastEnders

Tuesday night’s prime-time viewing kicked-off with Emmerdale at 7pm, attracting ITV1’s biggest audience of the night with 6.9 million viewers. 33% of the available audience tuned in as the drama turned quite urban with Holly scoring some heroin down the Woolpack.

Over on BBC One at 7:30pm, EastEnders proved more enticing for the audience than the drama in the Dales, as Ben Mitchell continued on his path as the world’s most troubled teenager. An audience of 8.2 million watched as Ian Beale tried to scare some sense into Ben by taking him to see Phil in prison, resulting in the biggest audience of the day. The episode secured a 37% audience share. Casualty spin-off Holby City followed at 8pm pulling in a solid audience of five million viewers.

The debut episode of The Hairy Bikers Bakeation saw the duo start their 5,000-mile road trip through Europe, beginning in Norway. 2.6 million viewers tuned in to see the bikers’ boundless enthusiasm for traditional Norwegian recipes and provided BBC Two’s biggest audience of the day, securing a 11.2% audience share.

BBC One continued to milk Masterchef: The Final down to the very last drop, securing an average audience of 4.2 million viewers in the 9pm slot. The final three competitors will be tested to their culinary limits for another two episodes.

The fifth episode of Big Fat Gypsy Weddings (9pm) secured Channel 4’s largest audience of the day – a 16% share of the audience. Four million viewers (400,000 down from last week) tuned in as the episode explored the importance of reputation and honour in the community – and featured Celebrity Big Brother winner Paddy Doherty celebrate a tumultuous 12 months.

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (Channel 5, 9pm) kicked-off a night of the hyper-edited crime-solving franchise. The original show pulled in 2.3 million viewers, the channel’s biggest success of the day, and was followed by CSI:NY and CSI: Miami. However viewer interest dwindled as the hours went by.
