TV Overnights: Waking the Dead banks 5.6m

BBC One’s Waking the Dead secured the all-important prime time ratings last night, peaking with a high of more than 5.6 million viewers.

The long-running crime drama attracted 5.5 million average viewers and a 22% audience share between 9pm and 10pm, seeing off competition from ITV1’s Law & Order: UK.

The third episode of the ITV1 drama, starring Bradley Walsh and Harriet Walter, attracted a lower 3.9 million peak viewers and a 14.3% average audience share during the peak-hour.

Elsewhere, the last in the series of Channel 4’s One Born Every Minute finished on a high of more than 2.5 million viewers and a 9.6% average share, while BBC Two’s new Neil Morrissey: Care Home Kid started on two million peak viewers and a 7.6% share.

Channel 5’s 9 o’clock film You Don’t Mess with the Zohan settled on just over a million viewers and a 5.4% share.

The soaps dominated the early evening slots – ITV1’s Coronation Street won the highest audience, peaking with 8.9 million viewers, though BBC One’s Eastenders wasn’t far behind with a high of 8.8 million viewers.
