BBC One’s long-running Waking the Dead series secured the highest ratings during the all-important peak-hour last night with 6.6 million viewers.

The conclusion of the two-part episode starring Trevor Eve as Detective Peter Boyd pulled in 6.5 million average viewers and a 27.7% audience share between 9pm and 10pm – a million and a half more than its ITV1 prime time rival Blue Murder.

ITV1’s police drama with Caroline Quentin attracted 5 million average viewers and a 21.5% audience share, which still put it a fair way in front of its fellow terrestrial rivals during the peak-hour.

Five’s Warship, meanwhile, picked up a high of 1.3 million viewers and a 5.7% average share, closely followed by Channel 4’s Daredevils: The Ice Man, which pulled in 1.2 million peak viewers and a 5% share.

Over on BBC Two, the second episode in the six-part Design for Life series attracted just 835,000 average viewers and a 3.5% share between 9pm and 10pm.

Earlier on in the evening, the soaps secured the highest ratings as usual, with ITV1’s Coronation Street coming out on top after banking an impressive high of 9.5 million viewers and a 42.8% average audience share.
