TV Overnights: Who Do You Think You Are? secures the peak spot

Who do you think you are?

BBC One’s long-running Who Do You Think You Are? attracted the highest ratings during last night’s 9pm to 10pm peak-hour slot.

An average of 4.6 million viewers tuned in to see the actor Alan Cumming investigate the life of his maternal grandfather, securing a 18.9% share for BBC One.

Elsewhere, ITV1’s second Bouquet of Barbed Wire with Trevor Eve pulled in a slightly lower 4.3 million average viewers and a 17.6% share. The drama did win over the peak audience during the first fifteen minutes of the peak hour with a high of 4.7 million viewers, before BBC One took over the top spot.

The last in the series of BBC Two’s Dragons’ Den was also a popular choice during the all-important peak-hour. The programme picked up more than 2.5 million average viewers and a 10.2% share between 9pm and 10pm.

Meanwhile, 1.3 million average viewers tuned in for the second of My Family’s Crazy Gap Year and Five’s 9 o’clock film Swordfish pulled in an average audience of one million viewers.

The soaps dominated the pre-watershed line-up. Albert Square residents are still dealing with the aftermath of the dramatic fire at the Queen Vic, as well as the return of the unwanted Sam Mitchell, while the tenants of Coronation Street haven’t got it much better following the arrival of Becky’s wayward sister.

In terms of ratings, BBC One’s Eastenders proved to be the most popular among viewers. The soap attracted an impressive high of more than 9.6 million viewers at 8pm, while the double episodes of Corrie peaked with 9.2 million at 7.45pm.
