TV Overnights: X Factor results attract a high of almost 14m viewers

The X Factor

The latest X Factor news continues to dominate headlines, conversations and the television ratings alike. This weekend was no exception.

More than 13.8 million peak viewers tuned in to ITV1 to see Simon’s girl group Belle Amie lose their place on the show last night. The full hour-long programme pulled in an average audience of over 13 million viewers and an impressive 45.4% share – with viewers also treated to performances from Bon Jovi, Rihanna and Jamiroquai before Dermot revealed the results.

Meanwhile, Saturday’s Halloween performance show proved slightly less popular, although still managed a peak audience of 12 million viewers and a 44.5% share between 8pm and 9.45pm.

Once again, viewers stuck with ITV1 for the duration, enabling both Piers Morgan’s Life Stories and Downton Abbey to claim the top spot post-X Factor.

On Saturday, Piers Morgan’s revealing interview with Rod Stewart picked up almost six million peak viewers, while the penultimate Downton Abbey pulled in more than 9.1 million peak viewers.

However, BBC One’s line-up didn’t go un-noticed. Despite losing out to ITV1 in the prime time slots, BBC One banked the highest ratings throughout most of the daytime schedule.

Strictly Come Dancing did particularly well for the channel, attracting a high of 11.3 million viewers on Saturday evening and more than 9.8 million peak viewers on Sunday evening.  Earlier on in the day, BBC One’s Live Darts coverage of the World Masters and Final Score‘s football highlights also proved popular among viewers.

On Sunday, it was slightly more balanced, with BBC Two’s MotoGP 2010 coverage and ITV1’s Midsomer Murders both sharing the peak daytime ratings.
