TV Revenue – March 1999

A data error meant that the TV Revenue item which appeared on Newsline earlier this week was incorrect. The revenue shares for the ITV franchises for March 1999 were incorrect and therefore the year on year comparisons were also erroneous.

The correct figures are now shown below and the earlier story has also been updated. We apologise for an inconvenience this may have caused.

Total terrestrial revenue for March 1999 (including GMTV), according to agency estimates, was £227.9 million. ITV’s total revenue increased by 14.8% year on year, reaching £159.2 million in March 1999. Channel 4’s total revenue also increased by 11.5% to £49 million, and Channel 5’s total revenue grew by 40.5% to £14.9 million. Satellite and cable rose to £27.2 million, a 24% year on year increase.

GMTV’s revenue on the other hand fell by 10.4% to £4.9 million.

Year on year, Central increased its share of revenue the most, up by 0.6% points to a 16.7% share, the largest amongst all the ITV franchises for March.

From January 1999 Central & North Scotland report as one area. This prohibits year on year comparisons.
