TV Times Links With Turner Movies To Promote Oscars

IPC Media’s TV Times magazine has come together with Time Warner’s Turner Classic Movies to promote the cable and satellite channel’s forthcoming 29 Days Of Oscars season of films.

February will see actor, director and regular Bafta host, Stephen Fry, present a season of Oscar-winning and nominated films on Turner Classic Movies, which will be sponsored by TV Times.

The television listings magazine will publish a range of Oscar features with a retrospective look at the last seventy five years of the Oscars in the run-up to the 76th Academy Awards awards this year.

The opening and closing credits of all films shown throughout the season will emphasise the glamour of the Oscars and will include the strapline: “Roll out the red carpet to TCM’s 29 Days of Oscars in association with TV Times, your golden guide.”

Commenting on the deal, Mike Hollingsworth, editor of TV Times, said: “This is the first time TV Times has supported a TCM film season and for us 29 Days of Oscars seemed a very good fit with the magazine.”

Alan Musa, vice president and channel manager of TCM, added: “29 Days of Oscars is TCM’s biggest stunt of the year and provides an ideal backdrop for a cross media deal between IPCtx and TCM. There is great synergy between these brands and both will enjoy increased awareness through this initiative.”

TCM reaches more than 9.3 million households in the UK and the latest ABC results for the six months to June 2003 show that TV Times currently circulates at 529,632, down 7.2% on the same period the previous year.

IPCtx recently relaunched TV & Satellite Week in an attempt to boost circulation and strengthen the magazine’s position in the increasingly competitive market. The new-look title has been completely refreshed and its pagination has been increased (see IPC Relaunches TV & Satellite Week To Boost Sales).
