TV Viewing Round-up: January 2011

Televisions

The Sunday night TV schedule proved to be a hit for ITV1 during January, with a peak run of Dancing on Ice, Wild at Heart and the Dancing on Ice Skate Off.

Dancing on Ice won the top ratings of the month with an average of 10.2 million viewers.

ITV1’s new drama Above Suspicion: Deadly Intent was also a popular choice among viewers, with an average of 7.5 million. Midsomer Murders, which has just started broadcasting series 14, also featured in the top 20 programmes list, as did The National Television Awards.

However, BBC One didn’t miss out – the popular Matt Lucas and David Walliams comedy Come Fly With Me, which has been commissioned for a second series, came in at number two in the top 20 with 8.8 million average viewers.

BBC One featured in the list 10 times. BBC Two also appeared twice – with Eric and Ernie (6.7 million viewers) and Top Gear (6.5 million viewers).

Channel 4, meanwhile, claimed ninth place with Big Fat Gypsy Weddings (7.5 million viewers). The five-part documentary is Channel 4’s most-watched factual programme ever. Having developed from a Cutting Edge film, it is also the channel’s eighth highest-rating programme ever.
