TV Viewing Summary – Castles Only Attracts 7.67m

BBC1’s new soap opera about a middle-clase family which started on Wed 31 May, attracted just 7.67m viewers. This is half a million less than the last new BBC soap, Eldorado which attracted 8.3 millions for its first episode, before it was doomed to failure.

ITV’s policy of ignoring bank holiday seems to be backfiring on them; the bank holiday was a ratings disaster for them with only Coronation Street and Bramwell outperforming their BBC1 equivalents.

Overall TV viewing for the week ending 04/06/95 is unchanged on last year’s figures although the combined ITV/C4 was down by 0.9% and ITV only was down by 2.1%.
