TV Viewing Summary – Raise The Roof Doesn’t Raise Viewers

ITV’s new game show Raise the Roof, which has Britain’s biggest ever prize of a £100,000 house, only managed to attract 7.79 million compared to the 11.02 million who watched BBC1’s Rich Deceiver shown at the same time. ITV had hoped that the show would tempt viewers back to ITV after the National Lottery Draw instead of staying with BBC1.

Channel 4 might soon be extending the Big Breakfast by half an hour following last Monday’s extension to accommodate film star Johnny Depp’s late appearance. Bob Massie of programme makers Planet 24 said “Its not my decision but who knows what might happen.” At present the Big Breakfast has a peak quarter audience of 1.1 million which is level with BBC1’s Breakfast News but behind GMTV’s 1.6 million.

Overall Television viewing has continued its rise on the previous week’s total, but is still down on the same week last year; viewing for this week is up by 7.3% on last week’s total but is down by 1.0% on last year’s total. Satellite and cable stations recorded one of their highest shares, at 9.4%.
