TV Viewing Summary W/E 02/02/97

London’s Burning gained around a million or so viewers on last week’s score taking it to a new high of 14.10 million. This represents a triumph for ITV drama, as for the first time in this current series Blue Watch have now more than matched their arch rivals in Holby’s Accident and Emergency Department. Casualty this week raised an audience of 13.58 million, and indeed most of the BBCs flagship programmes also suffered a slight drop in viewers. Eastenders‘ high point of the week, Thursday’s episode (16.60 million), was still half a million or so down on the previous weeks best, and Ballykissangel also experienced a similar minor slump.

Despite rather a bad press from most of the newspapers An Audience With Bruce Forsyth managed to attract 10.58 million viewers with his own unique mixture of dance, song and jokes. More good news for LWT on the light entertainment front this week, with It’ll Be Alright On The Night 5 achieving an audience of 12.66 million viewers.

Channel 4’s Secret Lives, this week giving an insight into the “complex personality” of Princess Margaret comes in at the top of its own chart, achieving an audience of 4.92 million. Both E.R and Dark Skies saw a slight drop in viewers and have slid down the chart to 10th and 11th places repectively.
