TV Viewing Summary – w/e 03/11/96
According to BARB weekly figures hours of viewing has increased overall by 36 minutes year on year, within which viewing to ‘Others’ ie. cable and satellite channels has shown the largest increase – up 31 minutes (23%). The greatest loss of actual time spent viewing came from ITV, down 29 minutes compared to the same period last year. Share of viewing, following the same pattern, shows ‘Others’ increasing by 1.7% points and ITV falling by 2.7% points year on year.
In Astra homes the channel showing the best year on year increase is Discovery/TLC – up 10 minutes, or 0.6% points on last year. Overall Total Astra has seen an increase of 52 minutes year on year, most of which (38 minutes) has been the result of additional channels.
Top programmes this week vary little from the norm, although compared to last week the numbers watching have fallen. Coronation Street (Mon) took the top slot with 17.51 million viewers, with Eastenders (Tue) in second place with 16.02 million. Channel 4 saw Drop the Dead Donkey falling from second to ninth place, and the new series of the Real Holiday Show only just making it into the Top 10 listing – previous series having taken top spots.
