TV Viewing Summary W/E 08/06/97

Coronation Street comes top of the chart this week, with Monday’s episode watched by 14.54 million, but overall soap of the week was Eastenders with an average viewing figure of 13.87 million. Coronation Street scored an average figure of 13.46 million over its four episodes. Emmerdale achieved an average of 10.87 million.

Saturday night saw the final of the current series of Stars In Their Eyes, which was watched by 9.19 million, with the final result attracting 10.61 million. Anglia Television’s Touching Evil is still the top drama of the week watched by 8.98 million, and continuing to maintain its core audience.

The return of the BBC’s flagship comedy Birds Of A Feather suffers its first set back, dropping from an audience of 9.85 million to 8.12 million in its second week. Comedy fared slightly better over on ITV with LWT continuing its ‘An Audience With’ series, this time Lily Savage entertained 8.68 million viewers.

As would be expected the quality of programming declines towards the bottom of the chart. New ITV drama The Man Who Made Husbands Jealous (watched by 7.61 million), gives everything away in the title and very little once on the screen. It gets worse the lower in the chart you go, stooping to the likes of You’ve Been Framed (7.30 million), Lucky Numbers (a very generous 7.11 million) and that all time classic Wheel Of Fortune coming in at number 30 with 7.08 million.

Over on Channel 4 E.R. continues to top the chart with 3.82 million. The Channel 5 chart remains much the same, with the week’s evening films taking up most of the places.
