TV Viewing Summary W/E 10/01/99

In a week that has seen ITV’s Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? dominate the week’s viewing, the area in the schedules that has benefited most is the weekend peaktime. ITV had one of its most successful Saturday nights in months and also improved its already strong Sunday night line up.

BBC1 suffered badly against the onslaught, with the usually strong Casualty seeing viewing figures fall from around 13 million to 9.59 million. Viewers decided to stay with ITV after Who Wants… finished and gave new show TV Nightmares an audience of 13.09 million.

ITV outclassed BBC1 on Sunday with its four main peaktime programmes achieving audiences of over 10.5 million.

All in all it was a very good week for ITV, which saw its average weekly hours and minutes increase year on year by 8.4% (the only terrestrial channel to see an increase in its figures).
