TV Viewing Summary W/E 11.07.99

The start of the fifth series of Friends has given Channel 4 a welcome boost to its Friday night line-up. The episode featuring the aftermath of Ross’ wedding day mix up, attracted an audience of 5.81 million and had a consolidated viewing share of 29%. The presence of such a strong leader programme helped push up the viewing figures for follow-on programme South Park, which rose from 2.89 million the previous week to 3.4 million this week.

This week saw the first of Roger Moore’s seven Bond films, with the showing of Live and Let Die. The film with the best Bond theme ever drew an audience of 9.01 million and continued ITV’s strong domination of Wednesday night evening schedules.

The hype surrounding the latest Star Wars film has led even the BBC to cash in on fans’ expectations. A Long Time Ago, The Story of Star Wars, a special edition of documentary programme Omnibus, attracted a reasonable 3.65 million viewers.
